Which quality should you choose?
Facebook does not store one file per video. When something is uploaded it is re-encoded into several renditions — commonly 1080p, 720p and a smaller SD version — so the player can switch depending on the viewer's connection. The list above shows what actually exists for that specific video, which is why two videos can offer different options.
A simple rule: pick 1080p if you plan to watch on a large screen or edit the footage later, 720p if you want a good balance of clarity and file size, and SD only if you are on a slow connection or saving space.
Why some videos only offer SD
If the highest option is 720p or lower, the limit is almost always the upload itself rather than this tool. The usual causes are an original recorded at a low resolution, an older upload from a period when Facebook capped quality more aggressively, a re-share of a video that had already been compressed once, or a replay of a live broadcast — live streams are encoded for latency rather than clarity, and the recording keeps those settings.
No downloader can recover detail that was never uploaded. Anything advertising "4K upscaling" for Facebook video is inventing pixels, not restoring them.
Roughly what the file will weigh
As a rough guide, expect somewhere around 25-50 MB per minute at 1080p, 12-25 MB at 720p, and under 10 MB for SD. Talking-head footage compresses far better than fast motion, so a five-minute interview can easily be smaller than a one-minute sports clip at the same resolution.
What cannot be downloaded
This tool only reaches videos that are public — visible to someone who is not logged in at all. It cannot retrieve videos limited to friends, posts inside private or closed groups, anything on a private profile, Stories, or content that asks you to sign in before it will play. If a video does not load for you in a private browser window while logged out, it will not work here.
That is a deliberate boundary, not a missing feature. Reaching restricted content would mean handling someone's Facebook credentials, and no download is worth that risk.
Downloading responsibly
A public video is still someone's work. Saving a clip to watch offline, to keep a copy of something you posted, or to archive a video you have permission to use is ordinary. Re-uploading someone else's video as your own is not, and it is the fastest way to collect a copyright strike. When in doubt, ask the person who posted it — most creators say yes when they are credited.
